Scholarship & Grant

The Anniston Runners Club offers its own Track Grant to a local area high school or independent cross-country/track team on a first-come, first-serve basis. The amount awarded is based on the size of the team. In return, we require that members of the team volunteer for one or more of our major races (the Woodstock 5K, Plucked Turkey 10K, Half-Naked Half-Marathon, and Canyon Climb 5-Miler). The number of volunteers required is determined by size of team, based on 25%. For example, a team of 20 would be required to supply a minimum of five volunteers for one race. More is better! For information on how to apply for the grant, see here. Deadline for 2024: April 30, 2024.

We also sponsor the Suzy Spiceland Michelson Memorial Scholarship to benefit young scholar athletes in our area. The $500 scholarship was established in 2017 to honor the memory of Suzy Spiceland Michelson, a member of the Anniston Runners Club who passed away in 2016. She was a librarian at Constantine Elementary School and a frequent marathon runner. Since then, we have offered the scholarship annually to any Calhoun County area graduating senior who is a member of their school’s cross country or track team. For information on how to apply for the scholarship, see hereDeadline for 2024: April 5, 2024.
