5K Run For Sight

P.O. Box 344

Anniston, AL 36202-0344

May 10th, 2008

On May 10, 2008, the Anniston Lions Club will hold its tenth annual “5K Race for Sight” through beautiful McClellan at 8:00 AM in front of Miller Gym. This will be the Lions third race on McClellan and the course has been certified to attract more “regional runners”.  Lions race director, Ed Turner noted the growing popularity of the run with over 150 runners are expected. The run will begin at the Miller Gym circle past Gadsden State and around charming Buckner Circle. There will be awards for the top runners by age and sex. There will also be special awards for the masters, grandmasters, great grandmasters and  youngest- oldest finishers. “Despite the name 5K Run, we want walkers to support our efforts to raise money for improving people vision. If there are any Relay for Life walkers who can help, they are invited to attend and help stop preventable blindness.” A fun run for the kids will be held immediately after the race on the track behind Miller Gym. The Lions are raising funds for Alabama Lions Sight Conservation and Camp Seale Harris.  Alabama Lions Sight Conservation serves the entire state of Alabama providing eye exams, glasses, prosthetics and surgery for those who cannot afford it. Camp Seale Harris is a camp for diabetic children and teaches them how to take better care of themselves. “Over our ten years we have raised over $50,000 for these charities and our local sight fund that provides eyeglasses” says Turner.

Inspiring runners will be Wilburn Smallwood of Anniston 84 years young and little Jake Moore who set a state record for 3 year old last year are expected.  Groups from the Boys and Girls Club and Camp Lewis are expected to participate too.

Runners, walkers, groups and the general public are invited to attend and support the Anniston Lions and the brave runners who will attend to raise money to eliminate preventable blindness.
